1 Timothy 6:18-19
18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
When Crossway Church first started, Pastor Steve launched a campaign called “Others” during the holiday season. The church was asked to complete a homework assignment to be intentional about focusing on someone else: a stranger, acquaintance or friend. One of my commitments was to use the tip I earned from my part time job at the time, for someone else that week. Fast forward to present day, my tip money ended up allowing me to meet my husband at a coffee shop. You never know what divine appointment God sets when you focus less on self, and more on others.
That campaign eventually morphed into a lifestyle of focusing on others, locally, nationally, and globally. This holiday season, we focus on our theme of Be Generous. A theme that comes from 1 Timothy 6:18-19. We focus on partnering with existing local organizations by donating our time, talents, and treasures on others less fortunate. We give to encourage, love, and remind the receiver that they are fully known and loved by not only the community, but by God.
As we continue to give gifts to foster/adoptive families (Olive Crest), serve hot meals to the homeless (Soup Kitchen), provide to those who are in transitional seasons due to violence and abuse (HOGP), and raise funds to assist families in our own congregation (mercy Ministry), let’s do so cheerfully and abundantly.
I am always so blown away by the generosity of our congregation and their desire to give. I am blessed by witnessing and experiencing God’s goodness through you all. Let us show others how much we care by being rich in good works and being generous.
