Community

We are created in the image of God. This truth inherently points us to live in and mimic the eternal fellowship & relationship of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As they were in perfect communion and fellowship with one another, we are to seek the same. Maybe you have thought to yourself, ”I can make it on my own, I don’t need anyone else” but in the long run this sort of thought process will fail because we are all created for community.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 poignantly tells us:

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him- a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

The simple truth of this passage teaches us that we are always stronger and more able when we have good brotherly and sisterly relationships of accountability surrounding us. It’s simple spiritual math; one is better than two and two is more able than three.

Here are some questions to ponder upon:

Do you have a community to lean on? Do you have good relationships that speak the truth of God word in your life? Do you have brothers or sisters that pick you up when you are down and who stays with you when life is tough and cold?

To build biblical community is not easy and it takes time but it is worth all of the effort, vulnerability and prayer. Consider joining a community group at Crossway today. It will hopefully propel you to start a journey of building life-long accountability, which we all desperately need.
